The Force Awakens' Stole Page Out Of 'X-Men' Marketing Playbook

What is a new trailer not a new trailer? Whenever it’s a twelve-second Instagram post that contains perhaps five seconds of new footage! That was the best Star Wars marketing schtick that decreased yesterday afternoon. Walt Disney didn’t presentación a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, as that’s not due till the Fall. But they did do something equally interesting. They dropped an Instagram post, operating twelve seconds in length, that basically amounted to a trailer teaser. It got all the coverage of a new trailer, and numerous outlets referred to it as a new trailer. However it was a twelve-second “tweaser, ” with very little new footage and really only one shot associated with note (more on that below). Issue sounds familiar, it’s because 20th Century Fox tried the same gimmick to great achievement with X-Men: Days of Future Past in the spring of 2014.
