The actual X Factor theme last weekend was Halloween but Cheryl Fernandez-Versini didn't appear to quite understand the memo.
She has been blasted by Twitter users for her right now ousted act Lola Saunders' version of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy which showcased dancers in straightjackets.
When asked what the connection to Halloween was, the Every day Mirror reports Cheryl said: 'It was crazy. If you didn't notice there have been people in straightjackets. '
Twitter users were quick to blast the girl after Saturday's show, with Michelle M, referring to Cheryl by her previous married name, and writing: 'So Cheryl Cole thinks Halloween = frightening = crazy = straitjackets..? Trivialising mental health issues on prime time television. G******e. #xfactor. '
Another user Toby Hobson wrote: 'Xfactor2014 Can somebody explain to Cheryl Cole that mental health conditions have nothing to do with Halloween party! #victorianattitudes. '
And Wayne Daley hit out, saying: 'Cheryl Cole states her horror theme was crazy people in straight jackets. Shocking insufficient knowledge about mental health #XFactorFrightNight. '
It wasn't just people on Tweet who thought the performance was tasteless, with Kate Nightingale of Thoughts and Rethink Mental Illness' Time to Change anti-stigma campaign telling the Every day Mirror: 'The X Factor is watched by millions and implying that psychological health problems are scary it's irresponsibly fuelling damaging myths and misconceptions. '
The paper reports there were 130 complaints to Ofcom and ITV concerning the performance.
And viewers' displeasure was obvious when Lola found herself within the bottom two on Sunday with boy band Stereo Kicks.
Lola made a decision to sing Natural Woman, and put everything into her performance.
Not lacking in guarantee, she held it together and kept hold of her emotions as the girl waited for Stereo Kicks to sing.
Louis Walsh and Cheryl tired of their own acts, while Mel B decided to send home Lola.
Simon Cowell, claiming to judge purely on the sing-off, saved Lola putting the decision to the general public vote.
Receiving the fewest votes, Lola was sent home.
When asked previously in the night who the judges thought needed to up their game, both gave a different response.
Prophetic Louis Walsh was adamant that Lola had much more to give.
While Mel B said, watching the show back she believed Fleur East needed to improve both her singing and her dancing.
