It might still be November, but we’re already thinking about all things sparkly and pretty for your upcoming holiday season, and what could be more luminous and lovely than the December issue associated with InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download November 14, featuring non-e other than pop sensation Ariana Grande.

The 21-year-old singer showed up to her first-ever InStyle cover shoot in N. Y. C. ’s Milk Studios toting a Chanel handbag along with a Starbucks (grande, natch). To set the mood, she put on a few of her preferred Madonna hits, like “Ray of Light” and “Like a Virgin, ” before giving us a sneak preview of one of her own new songs.

In addition to the gorgeous red Prabal Gurung gown she wears on this cover (paired with diamond and 18kt gold stud earrings by Jennifer Meyer), the star tried on a slew of patterned knits and A-line dresses for the shots that appear inside the issue. For her makeup, Grande asked professional Mariel Barrera to model her eyeliner after Angelina Jolie‘s go-to winged look, while Jennifer Lopez served as the muse for her bronzed skin. In terms of that ever-present pony? “She likes Brigitte Bardot sexpot hair, ” describes hairstylist Dalina Rebollo.
