Jason Reitman hosts a live read series every year through which actors perform classic scripts.
The “Men, Women & Children” cast to perform the “American Beauty” screenplay for one night only, set up by Jason Reitman will take spot Oct. 16 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Skill.
Adam Sandler will play Lester Burham, which nabbed Kevin Spacey an Oscar, and Rosemarie DeWitt may play Carolyn, originally portrayed by Annette Bening. Kaitlyn Dever has been cast as the couple’s daughter Jane (played in the film by Thora Birch), Olivia Crocicchia may play Jane’s friend Angela (played in the film simply by Mena Suvari) and Travis Tope will take Wes Bentley’s role as Ricky.
“I had a such a fantastic experience working with the cast that I was looking for any justification to get them all together again, ” Reitman told Enjoyment Weekly, which first broke the news of the casting. “It occurred to me while I was trying to figure out who to put into the ‘American Beauty’ read that the casts kind of lined up nicely. ”
“American Beauty” won five Oscars, including best photo and best original screenplay for Alan Bell’s program, and pulled in $356 million worldwide after it was from 1999.
This marks Reitman’s fourth year hosting the particular live reads. Next up is “Diner” in November, together with “The Empire Strikes Back” as the pick for January.
