One of the nicest things about this city’s fashion week is that unlike in other cities, where the fashion “week” is usually at least seven days, bookended by little previews and after-spasms, this one is a whirlwind five. So here we are in the home stretch.

Today’s heritage brands, not to be confused: first, Mulberry, which is following its smash Alexa Chung satchel with a recently introduced knapsack done with the model Cara Delevingne that will probably figure prominently in its all-day presentation starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 1 p.m., the much-older Burberry, the Hampshire trench coat purveyor turned worldwide branding juggernaut, will scatter fashion week attendees over sprawling Kensington Gardens, as has become its custom under its chief creative director and chief executive, Christopher Bailey (just call him “chief”). Expect a live performance, a large squad of celebrities and something to tipple.

Don’t get too squiffy, though, Mummy, because an hour later Issa, a favored label of the Duchess of Cambridge, is showing at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer — no relation to the palace, perhaps disappointingly for photographers hoping to get very, very early shots of Prince George’s just-announced sibling.
And you’ll want to stay clear-eyed for the 3 p.m. Tate Modern show of Christopher Kane, the Scotsman and pal of Versace, who opposes his home country’s referendum on independence from Britain, according to his signature on a letter to The Guardian.
That will be decided on Thursday, when the fashion pack has moved on to Milan. Perhaps its members will be heatedly discussing politics at the always-anticipated Tom Ford show Monday night at the Lindley Hall, a space devoted to horticulture near Westminster Cathedral, or perhaps, like the old quip attributed to Dorothy Parker, you can lead … never mind.
