Throughout China, the start of October is actually synonymous with Golden 7 days, the public holiday commemorating the actual founding of the People’s Republic. But since the launch associated with Beijing Design Week this year, it’s also become a party to celebrate the country’s strong design scene. Running through Sept. 26 - April. 3, the fourth edition associated with BJDW will be as enormous and diverse as Beijing itself, featuring hundreds of occasions ranging from straight-laced industry community forums at China Millennium Batiment to experimental sound artwork on city buses. Brand new additions this year include a style film festival, an original brand name and e-commerce platform marketing Chinese designers, and Plug-IN Stations, architect-designed kiosks to assist visitors and locals participate. Here, a selection of highlights through the Design Hop program, that spans four areas of the main city.



Dashilar Alley, an ancient mercantile hub just south of Tiananmen Square, is one of the sites of the Beijing Design Festival.
