"She lost a husband and has had to raise two teens, one who is extremely difficult and has drug problems, " the house of Cards and Gone Girl actress says of her character, Madison. "The most interesting thing is her instinct to survive as well as protect her family. I really admire exactly how quick she is when making those really difficult decisions. I hope I would be that fast. " And ....
"I probably should get on which, " the actress tells PEOPLE to be ready for a catastrophic event. "Even the earthquake kits are probably expired at home. "
But if it came down to it, Dickens hopes she'd have the same fortitude as the senior high school guidance counselor she plays on the spinoff prequel series to AMC's The Strolling Dead.
That is very brave for her to get that
Dickens admits she was not keen on the zombie genre until she started watching The Walking Dead in preparing for her Fear the Walking Dead season casting.
"It is filled with universal themes that speak out loud beyond the horror drama. There are styles of survival and identity and anxiety and stress that we all can identify with. It's kind of a metaphor in way for things all of us deal with every day, " she says. "I had been completely sucked into it. "

"My personality wouldn't know what was going to happen, so I did not want to know either, " she says.
But the girl couldn't keep her family from ongoing to watch.
"My mom is almost strictly the BBC fan. She only watches all those shows. But when she found out I got the business, she started watching The Walking Lifeless and now she's obsessed, " Dickens states. "I was like, 'Really? ' The girl doesn’t even watch cable or system television. That just shows how common the show is. "
