Yvonne Craig, The Kid's first celebrity crush, dies at age 78

Yvonne Craig, best known for her role as Batgirl in the iconic 1960s television Batman collection, died on Monday after complications through breast cancer that spread to her liver. She was 78.

Craig passed away at her home in Pacific Palisades, Calif., as well as her family announced her death within a statement posted on her website:



“She have been in chemo almost continuously for the past 2 plus years since being diagnosed which had weakened her immune system as well as the girl body. This didn’t dampen her spontaneity or her spirit, she intended to battle and win this battle. In the end, the Star mind still wanted to fight but the girl body had given up. ”

The declaration also says Craig’s wishes would have already been “that no one waste a moment of their time within mourning for her loss in sadness but rather celebrate the awesome life she have been fortunate enough to live. ”

Aside from crusading together with Batman and Robin, Craig had a number of prominent television appearances, which included starring within the third season of Star Trek because Marta, the green slave girl who wished to kill Captain Kirk.


Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and grew up within Columbus, Ohio, for the first 14 years of her living.[citation needed] She originally trained to be a coreografia dancer and was a member of the corps de coreografia of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the 1952s. Gradually, she moved into acting, and in the sixties appeared in three films: The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget. She also experienced a guest role as Beverly Mills in the the sixties episode "Little Miss Wow" of the television series Mr. Lucky. In 1960, she appeared with Bing Crosby within High Time.

In the following year, she appeared with Cesar Romero in Seven Women from Hell. Romero might later play the Joker in Batman. Another link with Batman occurred when Craig appeared in "The Situation of the Lazy Lover", a 1958 episode of the series Perry Mason, which also featured Neil Hamilton because her stepfather. Hamilton would later play her dad, Commissioner Gordon, in Batman.

Yvonne starred in functions with Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened in the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin' Cousins (1964). The girl also starred in the cult sci-fi film Mars Needs Women (1966), and appeared in In Like Flint (1967) as a Russian ballet dancer opposite James Coburn.
