
The founding member of Sonic Youth in the early 1980s, Kim Gordon helped determine a gritty downtown New York glamour that is still idolized as well as emulated today. In the ’90s, Gordon’s style became a touchstone for both the underground riot-grrrl movement and a more mainstream audience through MTV videos and the clothing line she co-founded, X-Girl. So that as both a musician and a fine artist, Gordon has been a good outspoken feminist figure throughout.
Now based in Northampton, Mass., Gordon has returned to her experimental musical roots with Body/Head, the girl project with the guitarist Bill Nace, which released its presentación album last September. For this year’s Frieze Art Fair working in london, Gordon will collaborate with the artist Nick Mauss on a number of ballets that will occur at locations throughout the fair.
