A solid juxtaposition was at play here-between the melancholic pieces and the sci-fi set, the display was indeed a “journey, ” through the past to the future. With strong sixties and 1970s influences (a heady tendency for spring 2015), Guesquiere’s second collection with regard to Louis Vuitton saw Boho-inspired peasant dresses, smashed ultra-luxe velvet, flared denim with comparison orange stitching, and a hodgepodge of sentimental sticker-esque prints that included old-school strike dryers, vintage cars, and LV luggage (of course).

What it was like: Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere saw the spring/summer 2015 show as an opportunity to unveil the new Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton, a contemporary art museum slated to open later this month, that resembles, more than anything, an incredible otherworldly spaceship. To play up the futuristic theme, gigantic holographic models were situated throughout to deliver a message in unison about the vessel-like structure: “[It's] a ship made of 3,600 glass panels and 15,000 tons of steel…The journey starts here in this place soon named Fondation Louis Vuitton.” And then, in a weird (though not jarring) dichotomic shift, the lyrical notes of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1965 hit “The Sound of Silence” drifted lazily from the speakers to signify the start of the show.
