Soon after getting ombre highlights, Emma Stone stepped out onto the reddish carpet at the 2014 Met Gala wearing a low-key plait, and we adored how it added an carefree vibe to her sleek Thakoon number. “Emma’s custom Thakoon dress looked effortlessly cool, and we wanted her hair to fit with a fresh, young style that was all about texture, ” says her hairstylist Mara Roszak.
To start, Roszak spritzed L’Oreal‘s Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Design Spray ($5; ulta. com) onto the star’s damp strands, concentrating on the fundamental area, then coated her mid-lengths and ends with a light veil in the TXT It Tousle Waves Spray ($5; ulta. com). She then rough-dried Stone’s hair, and swept it away from her face to create body. Roszak added more volume by backcombing a section of hair at her the queen's, and once the height was in place, she began twisting the star’s layers in to a wide braid, which began on the left side of Stone’s head and fell for the right. She tied off the style with a clear elastic, and finished with a mild spritz of L’Oreal Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray ($13; ulta. com). The face-framing wisps make this style perfect for warm-weather wear, as the breezy structure actually works with the humid elements, rather than against them.
