Forget the gym, put on your Olivia Pope-approved silk La Perla pajamas (or in my case, cotton-blend college sweatpants), start nuking some popcorn, and pour yourself a goblet of red wine. Because tonight marks the return of our favorite TV gladiator and her immaculate style. We break down one of her best looks so far (above), and make a few hopeful predictions for season four.
The coat. Way back in the second season, Pope tackled dead bodies, new love interests, and more notably, outerwear. Her Max Mara cape coat is polished and commanding, with just the right amount of coziness. One key detail is color: “Lighter tones make a statement of strength,” says Lyn Paolo, the show’s costume designer, who dresses actress Kerry Washington in a palette of mostly creams and grays for her role. And the large flap collar is necessary for creating a presence, according to Paolo.
