There are holes for the head, the arms and the legs. But it is what the designers create around those holes that mesmerizes the audience. The New York spring fashion collections ended Thursday night. Donna Karan showed a spectacular cocktail shirtdress. Ralph Lauren dramatized it for an evening gala. The newest development is the exaggerated cuff, often covering the hand, which Michael Kors dramatized. Jenna Lyons, the designer for J. Crew, polished it all off with the proportion and balance of the shirt to the rest of the ensemble. Even the daily look of the top French Vogue editors was plaid or denim shirts with faded jeans.
