Our new favorite cookbook doesn’t just provide step-by-step instructions on how to whip together mouthwatering confections. It also saves lives.
Available today, Unichef
($25; amazon.com) is a collection of 40 recipes from all our favorite chefs including Jamie Oliver, Anthony Bourdain, Curtis Stone, Giada De Laurentiis, Padma Lakshmi, and Mario Batali (whose heavenly dish of Bucatini all’Amatriciana is pictured above).
Author Hilary Gumbel undertook the major task of gathering comfort food recipes, photographs, and personal stories from world renowned chefs and is donating 100 percent of her royalties directly to UNICEF, The United Nations Children’s Fund. “Each chef who contributed to this book said yes, because it meant they were going to be helping to provide children and their families with the means to a better life,” Gumbel writes in the cookbook’s forward. Indeed, UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to help children by providing health care, immunizations, clean water, sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more.

The resulting cook book is a tapestry of ambrosial recipes from all cultures, personal stories and memories about comfort food, and, above all, love.

“I’m thrilled to be a contributor to Unichef
with funds going to children that desperately need our help,” Chef Curtis Stone told InStyle. “Of course, it was an easy decision to provide one of my favorite recipes to a special, collaborative cookbook supporting critical programs for children in the areas of nutrition, water and sanitation, health care and beyond.”
For his comfort food, Stone contributed a recipe for grilled lobster with sweet corn butter and bacon marmalade. “Grilling is a way of life in Australia,” said the chef.
And, even if lobster season is almost over in the States, Stone encourages everyone to try his rich spreads on fall dinners: “The sweet and creamy corn butter and delicious bacon marmalade go perfectly with colossal shrimp. Of course chicken and corn go well together too, so brush some of the butter on your favorite cut of chicken. “
